A Website Strategy Case Study

Marketing can feel like trying to solve a puzzle where all the pieces keep changing shape

Most business owners start with a long list of tasks they’d like to accomplish, but quickly realize these tasks are all interconnected. Touch one piece, and something else shifts. The question becomes not just what needs to be done, but where to even begin.

When tackling a website transformation, business owners often struggle with fundamental questions: How do you create clear pathways for different audiences while maintaining a unified message? When is the right time to develop new lead magnets and email sequences? Should you focus on SEO first or messaging? Without strategic guidance, these interconnected decisions can lead to analysis paralysis or, worse, wasted resources on disconnected efforts with multiple service providers.

This was exactly the situation Akua Nyame-Mensah found herself in. As a successful leadership coach and advisor, she had multiple marketing priorities competing for attention: a new quiz for her business, the need for an SEO audit, a potential website update, and various other marketing initiatives.

I am so honored to be the one to introduce you to Akua Nyame-Mensah

As a certified ICF executive and leadership coach with both a leadership-focused MBA from the Africa Leadership University School of Business and a masters from the University of Pennsylvania, Akua brings a unique blend of academic rigor and practical experience to her work with clients.

Her journey includes co-founding and managing a platform for the first African-based tech unicorn (now NYSE-listed), giving her firsthand insight into the challenges of scaling tech-enabled businesses and teams.

Beyond her private coaching practice, Akua hosts the Open Door Conversations Podcast and serves as a recognized facilitator for prestigious programs including Google for Startups, Stanford Seed, and The Women’s Impact Alliance.

Her coaching methodology combines traditional approaches with leadership psychology, neuroscience, and emotional intelligence research—making her particularly effective at helping entrepreneurial-minded leaders prioritize their focus and energy.

The Challenge: Prioritizing Marketing Efforts

While Akua was successfully attracting individual coaching clients through referrals and SEO, she faced several strategic marketing challenges:

  • Determining which marketing initiatives to prioritize for maximum impact
  • Deciding how to evolve her website to attract more corporate clients
  • Moving away from typical “course creator” marketing conventions that weren’t serving her brand
  • Creating clear pathways for both individual and corporate clients
  • Maintaining strong SEO performance while expanding her focus

This challenge is common among successful service providers – knowing what to prioritize and in what order to tackle marketing initiatives. Without a clear strategy, it’s easy to get stuck in analysis paralysis or waste resources on disconnected efforts.

So here's the solution

Strategy-First VIP Intensives

Akua had two options to meet her goals: First, she’d need to make either coordinate with multiple service providers for different pieces of the project, or start with a focused VIP intensive day to map out a comprehensive strategy. She chose the VIP intensive, recognizing that getting the strategy right from the start would make everything else fall into place.

The initial intensive was such a game-changer in providing clear direction and actionable next steps that Akua didn’t hesitate to book a second VIP day focused on implementation.

This collaborative approach allowed for:

  • Real-time collaboration on messaging and structure
  • Immediate feedback and adjustments
  • Strategic guidance while maintaining her authentic voice
  • Cost-effective implementation compared to hiring multiple specialists

Most importantly, this approach meant Akua could stay true to her unique voice and perspective while getting expert guidance on strategy, SEO, and conversion optimization.

Strategic Planning + Audit

Our strategy began with a comprehensive website and SEO audit to understand what was working and identify opportunities for improvement. This foundational analysis revealed that while Akua’s site performed well for some coaching keywords, though there was an untapped potential many terms. We were also able to identify technical errors that needed to be addressed before updating the site copy, and made plans for how to prioritize and implement additional SEO strategy.

The transformation unfolded across multiple collaborative sessions:

  • Complete website content audit to identify high-performing pages
  • SEO analysis to understand current rankings and opportunities
  • Development of clear user pathways for different audience segments
  • Strategic recommendations for content reorganization

Content Development + Optimization

Before diving into new content creation, we needed to establish a clear foundation that would serve both individual and corporate audiences effectively. We focused on streamlining the user experience while maintaining the strong SEO performance that was already working in Akua’s favor:

  • Streamlined homepage to provide clear direction for different audience segments
  • Created corporate-focused service pages addressing organizational needs
  • Crafted strategic messaging around leadership development and change
  • Developed a marketing quiz to help segment and guide potential clients
  • Refined existing content to maintain SEO performance while expanding focus

Collaborative Writing + Refinement

Rather than taking a traditional handoff approach, we worked together in real-time sessions to capture Akua’s unique voice and expertise while ensuring strategic alignment. This collaborative process allowed us to:

  • Workshop key messaging to resonate with senior leaders
  • Develop case studies showcasing corporate work
  • Create email sequences for different audience segments
  • Fine-tune content to maintain Akua’s authentic voice while elevating the professional tone

Since visual elements play a crucial role in professional presentation, we carefully planned the integration of new imagery to support the refined messaging:

  • Integrated new professional photography to enhance presentation
  • Strategically placed imagery to support different content sections
  • Created consistent visual hierarchy across pages

The Results: Strategic Clarity + Tangible Outcomes

Through our VIP intensives and collaborative work, Akua went from feeling “very lost and overwhelmed with how to put together copy that would feel authentic and lead to results” to having a clear strategy and implementation plan she could execute with confidence.

Key outcomes included:

  • A complete website transformation with authentic, strategic copy
  • An updated quiz opt-in with purposeful marketing strategy
  • An improved welcome sequence for new subscribers
  • Implementation of time-saving tools like Tally forms to better qualify leads
  • Clear processes for screening potential clients more efficiently

“Working with Erin, I learned a lot about SEO and the importance of text hierarchy on the page,” Akua shared. “I also feel a lot more comfortable writing copy and understand the strategy behind it.”

The strategic guidance and tool recommendations proved particularly valuable. “Erin is very structured and knows the best tools to use to save time, money and energy,” Akua noted. “I left every conversation with a clear idea of what I needed to focus on and tips/tricks on how to write.”

Most importantly, the new systems and strategies are already showing promise for improving business operations.

“I know it is going to be so much easier to filter through my leads thanks to the website and all the tools you have suggested I use,” Akua explained. “I can quickly say no to potential leads saving time/energy. Using it for the quiz is also going to help me increase my potential clients.”

tldr? You're in the right place

Akua's VIP experiences were a success. Here's why:

This project demonstrated the value of strategic collaboration in website transformation:

  • A comprehensive audit helps prioritize marketing initiatives effectively
  • Working collaboratively ensures authentic voice while maintaining professional standards
  • Clear, concise messaging often works better than lengthy sales copy
  • Strategic organization of content can serve multiple audience segments effectively
  • Professional guidance combined with client implementation can be more cost-effective than hiring multiple specialists

The result was a website that effectively serves both individual and corporate clients while presenting a unified brand message about advancing leadership and creating more equitable workplaces.
