Planning for 2025 feels different than any other year I’ve been in business. Maybe it’s because I finally have a better handle on my work schedule and capacity (hello, predictable working hours!). Maybe it’s because coming off a “maintaining” year like 2024, I’m ready to set myself up for intentional growth. Or maybe it’s because we’re living in wild times where making any future plans feels like trying to predict which way the wind will blow.
So, it’s taken me a while to sit with what I’m leaving behind in 2024 and what I’m taking with me. More than that, it’s taken me time to thoughtfully forecast the year ahead instead of jumping into planning mode just because the calendar changed. If you caught last week’s post about my 2024 review, you know that last year taught me some valuable lessons about capacity and intention.
Here’s the thing: I’m not typically someone who sets enormous, sweeping business goals like “10x my revenue!” or “reach a million followers!” 🤢 Instead, I prefer to have a clear vision of what I want to accomplish and create practical steps to get there. So let’s dive into what I’m carrying forward, what I’m leaving behind, and where I’m headed in 2025.
What’s Already Working (And Coming With Me Into 2025)
Before we jump into new business goals for 2025, let’s acknowledge what’s already working well (and what I plan to continue doing in 2025). These aren’t just things that worked—they’re elements that brought real joy and results to my business.
SEO content creation wins
Remember that massive content push I did in Q4? If not, I published 18 pieces of SEO-optimized content in just three months. I know, I know—I’m an SEO copywriter, so this might sound obvious. But there’s something powerful about practicing what you preach and seeing it work firsthand. Those posts are already bringing in qualified leads and helping ideal clients find me.
The joy of focused work time
This year marked my first full year working without children at home, and let me tell you—it’s been transformative. While my ADHD brain doesn’t always play nicely with traditional productivity methods, having uninterrupted cognitive space has changed everything about how I work. No more trying to write website copy while supervising homework or recording podcasts during naptime. Instead, I can dedicate full brain power to my work when I’m at my best.
Client work and teaching opportunities
Helping my clients think bigger about their content and copy continues to energize me. Whether I’m diving deep into brand messaging during a VIP intensive or teaching SEO strategies to a room full of Yale fellows, these moments remind me why I love what I do. I want 2025 to be full of more incredible clients who are ready to think strategically about their content, and more opportunities to teach and speak about the topics I’m passionate about.
Making Strategy the Star of the Show
After reviewing what worked in 2024, one thing became quite clear: I really shine when I’m helping clients think strategically about their content and copy. It’s not just about writing pretty words or finding SEO keywords—it’s about creating content that serves a real purpose in their business.
This led me to my biggest goal for 2025: everything—and I mean everything—needs to lead with strategy. You might be thinking, “But Erin, don’t you already do strategy?” And yes, I do. But I want to make it even more intentional and visible in every aspect of my business..
Curious about what my strategy-first makeover actually looked like?. It includes:
- Consulting calls focused on building actionable roadmaps
- VIP intensives where we dive deep into your SEO strategy before creating a plan or implementing changes
- Content packages that start with comprehensive planning sessions
- Website audits that look beyond just copy to overall marketing strategy
- Website copy projects that begin with brand messaging and user journey mapping
Now, don’t panic—I’m not completely overhauling how I work with clients. In fact, all of these things I just mentioned already existed. 🤣 The deliverables you know and love aren’t changing. But I am making the strategy component more prominent from the very first interaction.
Strategic Streamlining and Improvements
Speaking of strategy, I’ve taking a hard look at my own digital product suite. Right now, my courses and products are scattered across different platforms—some on Thrivecart, others on my website.
So, one of my business goals for 2025 is to create a streamlined shop directly on my website. This isn’t just about making things prettier (though that’s a nice bonus). It’s about creating a better experience for people who want to DIY their copy and content strategy. And, obviously, since the user experience will be more buyer-friendly, I’m hoping it will increase conversions as well.
In addition to creating a streamlined shop, I also want to review what DIY products I’m selling and make sure they’re in the best shape possible. To do this, I’ll thoroughly audit of all my existing courses and products.
If you’re a current or former student, I’d love your input here. What additional content would make these resources even more valuable? Did you have any questions that weren’t fully answered? Your feedback will help shape these improvements directly.
A Fresh Approach to Content and Marketing
You know what’s funny about being a content strategist? Sometimes you get so caught up helping clients with their content that your own takes a backseat. Well, not this year. I’m approaching my content with the same strategic mindset I bring to client work. For 2025, I’ve developed a three-pronged content approach that feels both ambitious and achievable. Here’s the plan:
Weekly blog posts that actually serve a purpose
I’m committing to one standalone blog post every week—and no, I don’t mean just republishing my podcast show notes (though those will continue too). These posts will be strategic, SEO-optimized deep dives into topics my audience actually cares about. Think comprehensive guides, detailed case studies, and actionable how-tos.
Talk Copy to Me: Season 4 and beyond
We’re staying with a consistent Tuesday release schedule this year. Though, there is a change I plan to make this year. I’m finally going to get better at actually telling you how I can help. If you’ve been a long-time listener, you know I rarely mention my services. That’s changing—not in a salesy “infomercial” way, but in an authentic “Hey, if you need help with this, here’s how we could work together” way.
Email marketing to build real connections
My email marketing is a perfect example of wanting to be more strategic with the content I create, and I plan to step my email marketing up a notch. I’m shifting from having no true emailing schedule to consistent twice-weekly communications. One email will share the latest podcast episode, while the other will be more connection-focused. Think behind-the-scenes insights, strategic tips, and real talk about content and copy.
Stepping Into the Spotlight
Let’s talk visibility because, honestly, I’ve been playing it a bit safe. That changes in 2025. Here’s how I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone:
Be our guest, be our guest
I absolutely love being a podcast guest. Some of my favorite business conversations have happened while being interviewed on other shows, and historically, podcast guesting has been fantastic for my business visibility. The connections I’ve made, the clients I’ve attracted, the relationships I’ve built—they’ve all been incredible.
But over the past couple of years, I’ve let this part of my visibility strategy slide. While I’ve been fortunate enough to be invited on some amazing shows, I haven’t been proactively pursuing these opportunities. In fact, in 2024, I barely pitched any podcasts at all.
That changes in 2025. I’m making podcast guesting a major priority again. Not just because it’s great for business visibility, but because I genuinely miss those in-depth conversations with other business owners. There’s something special about connecting with different audiences and sharing insights in a way that truly helps people.
So if you’re a podcast host (or know one), don’t be surprised if you see a pitch from me in your inbox this year. I’m back on the podcast guesting train, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
Local impact, broader reach
Here’s something that might surprise you: despite years in business, I’ve never really focused on local connections. I’ve been so immersed in the online world that I’ve overlooked opportunities right in my backyard.
This year, I’m changing that. I’m actively seeking local speaking engagements and building connections in my community. I want to be involved in local business groups, speak at regional conferences, and maybe even host some in-person workshops. Because while the online world is wonderful, there’s something special about being able to meet for coffee and talk business strategy face-to-face with other entrepreneurs who understand your local market.
Investing in Growth (One Quarter at a Time)
Remember how I mentioned stumbling into an Ivy League opportunity? In December, I got an email about a entrepreneurship program at Cornell—something I’d joined the waitlist for years ago and completely forgotten about. After a quick application process, I found out I’d be starting 2025 as an eCornell student in their Women’s Entrepreneurship Certificate program.
This opportunity is my sole focus for Quarter 1, and I’m really proud of myself for keeping it that way. My ADHD brain would love to sign up for all the amazing programs launching right now, but I know that dedicated focus will serve me better than trying to learn everything at once.
Once Q2 rolls around, I’ll reevaluate what learning opportunities make the most sense for my business and my schedule. There’s something exciting about not having the whole year mapped out—it leaves room for the right opportunities to present themselves when I actually have the capacity to embrace them.
From Goals to Reality: The Implementation Roadmap
We all know that business goals without action steps are just wishes. So let’s talk about how these ambitious plans are actually going to happen.
Understanding my true capacity
Remember how 2024 taught me about the importance of realistic capacity planning? I’m taking those lessons to heart. This means:
Creating dedicated time blocks for different aspects of my business, but with a twist—I’m planning around my energy levels, not just my calendar. Client work happens during my peak focus hours, content creation when I’m feeling creative, and admin tasks when I need a mental break.
I’m also building in what I call “life happens” buffer time. Because let’s be real—kids get sick, school events pop up (hello, unexpected book fair volunteering!), and sometimes your brain just needs a reset day. Having this buffer means one unexpected event doesn’t derail the entire week.
Monthly check-ins that go beyond numbers
What’s that saying….What gets measured gets managed? Well, if I got that right, let’s just say that I’m measuring more than just the usual business metrics. Each month, I’m looking at:
The tangible stuff:
- Revenue and profit numbers (obviously)
- Content published and its performance
- New connections made and opportunities created
- Progress on major projects
But also the intangible:
- How energized I feel after client calls
- Whether my systems are making life easier or creating friction
- If I’m actually enjoying the content I’m creating
- The quality of connections I’m building
Looking Ahead
Is this plan ambitious? Maybe. Will all of my business goals for 2025 go exactly as planned? Let’s be real—probably not. There will be curveballs, unexpected opportunities, and things that just don’t work out the way I envisioned.
But here’s what I know for sure: After a year of maintaining in 2024, I’m ready for intentional growth. Not the “hustle culture” kind of growth that burns you out, but sustainable, strategic growth that builds something lasting.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about hitting numbers or checking boxes. It’s about building a business that serves my clients well, brings me joy, and leaves room for all the other parts of life that matter.
